How Will You Leave Your Legacy?

Gifts of all sizes and types combine to support St. Michael High School’s goal of graduating young men and women of competence, compassion, and conscience who are committed to leadership and service. Whether you choose to direct your gift to a special program or our overall endowment, your support will directly impact our students and community.

When you support St. Michael, you are ensuring that future students benefit from the great and historic strengths of Catholic education — an approach to learning emphasizing inquiry, experience, action, and reflection.

There are many ways to make charitable contributions, and we invite you to explore some popular options on the left-hand menu. And as always, please consider a confidential, no-obligation conversation if you have questions or would like to donate anonymously.

Compassionate support of alumni, parents, and friends

The Fund for St. Michael

The St. Michael experience is only possible because of our supportive and generous community. Our students receive an unparalleled education – engaging in a rigorous and dynamic student life, focused on the development of the whole person with enhanced courses, extra-curricular activities, and programs. Most of all, they gain a deeper spiritual experience centered on Jesus Christ and His message of mercy, love, and service.

As part of our mission to keep St. Michael affordable and accessible to all families who desire a Catholic education for their children, we keep our tuition below the actual cost of our program and rely on the generosity of the community to help us make up the difference. Without the compassionate support of alumni, parents, and friends, we would not be able to serve so many of these young men and women, who will be the future of our society and our world.

Scholarship Donation

Scholarships, funds, and endowments are created to provide financial support to St. Michael High School. Through an agreement between a benefactor and the school, these restricted funds are used for numerous expenses such as tuition assistance to families in need and campus improvements. Thanks to our donors, these means of monetary supplements help carry out the mission and vision of St. Michael High School.

It is through the continuous generosity of SMHS supporters our scholarships, funds, and endowments continue to grow. The amount required to fully endow a scholarship or fund is $40,000. Once endowed, only the earned interest income is used, not the corpus. This allows the scholarships to perpetually grant financial support to St. Michael High School.

To invest in any of our current scholarships, endowments, or funds, use our online form to give now. If you wish to establish an avenue for financial assistance, please contact President Ryan Empson at (225) 753-9782 ext. 42 or rempson@smhsbr.org.

  • 2nd Generation Scholarship

The 2nd Generation Scholarship is awarded to an incoming sophomore,  junior, and senior who has chosen to walk in the footsteps of their parent(s) by attending St. Michael the Archangel High Shcool. Eligible students of this onetime honor must  demonstrate academic excellence while embodying the qualities of a true Warrior.

  • Barefoot Pedals Scholarship

The Barefoot Pedals Foundation was established in 2011 to honor the legacy of Catholic High Alumnus and educator, Jeffrey David Nola. At the age of 35, Jeff lost a courageous battle with a rare form of cancer. His legacy of giving carries through the annual scholarship awarded to an incoming senior who is a member of the student ministry team or band. The recipient must exemplify leadership skills, a strong spirituality, and a commitment to academic success.

  • Bogan Family Scholarship*

The Bogan Family Scholarship was established by Mr. Robert Bogan, who believe in the value of a good Catholic education. Mr. Bogan worked hard to provide a Catholic education for all five of his children. Three of his grandchildren are graduates of St. Michael High School. Mr. Bogan wanted to ensure that this scholarship would provide support for the you men and young women at St. Michael High School for many years to come. This fully endowed scholarship is awarded annually to a sophomore for tuition assistance. The recipient must value the gift of a Catholic education, strive for academic excellence, and live out his/her faith in his/her daily life.

  • Carley McCord Scholarship

As a 2007 graduate of St. Michael High School, Carely McCord was an avid support of her alma mater. She gave her time and talent to many of our school events and received the Alumni of the Year Award in 2018. Carley’s life was tragically cut short a year later. To honor her legacy, the Carley McCord Memorial Scholarship is given to an incoming senior who demonstrates many of the qualities Carley possessed: a deep faith, a strong work ethic, academic achievement, participation in sport, and a true love of people and of life.

  • Ezra Fund

The Ezra Fund was generously established to financially assist current St. Michael families during unexpected hardships: loss of a job, death of a family member, divorce, etc. These “life happens” events during a school year could disrupt a family’s ability to monetarily meet the cost of a Catholic education. Your tax-deductible gift to this fund helps offset the tuition payments for eligible families in need.

  • Future Saints Scholarship

Designed to assist families wishing for their child to receive a Catholic education, the Future Saints Scholarship was established to financially assist students enrolled in St. Michael the Archangel High School’s SWORD Program (Strong Warriors Of Resilience and Determination). SWORD aims to promote inclusion at the high school level and foster supportive environment where all students can thrive together. The program emphasizes collaboration among educators, families, and students, encouraging active participation and engagement. It creates pathways for students with diverse abilities to access a wider ranger of academic and extracurricular opportunities, fostering a sense of belonging and community.

  • Greater Baton Rouge State Fair Scholarship*

The Jim Broussard Greater Baton Rouge State Fair Scholarship was established in 2015 by Mr. Jim Broussard, a St. Michael High School neighbor and a member of the Greater Baton Rouge Fair Foundation. Mr. Broussard wanted to recognize the hard work and dedication of St. Michael students. Each year, funds from the endowment are used to award a tuition assistance scholarship to a St. Michael High School junior based on their scholarship, leadership, and community service.

  • Leadership Scholarship

Wanting to provide for Warrior students who go the extra step and exhibit leadership qualities, the SMHS Student Council established the Leadership Scholarship in 2018. The annual award is given to an incoming junior or senior who is involved in their school community, leads by example, and exhibits excellence in their daily life.

  • Matthew Guillot '13 Memorial Scholarship

To honor the life of alumnus Matthew Guillot, this memorial scholarship was established in his name. As an active member in the Warrior Band, Matthew excelled as a percussionist, but will most be remembered as a caring friend who would change the dynamic of a room by his presence. Each year, the scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman who lives with a Christian attitude, exhibits leadership qualities, and plans to continue band while attending St. Michael High School.

  • Rain Will Bring Flowers Scholarship

Created by the Tabor family, the Rain Will Bring Flowers Scholarship was established in 2024 to raise awareness in the scarcity of accessible mental health services to those in need. After the loss of their son, Owen, Mr. and Mrs. Jordan Tabor began their journey of helping others who struggle with mental health issues. Each year, a financial aid scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who plans on pursuing a degree in Behavioral Health at a four-year university.

  • Ron Lally Jr. Memorial Drum Major Scholarship

The Ron Lally Jr. Memorial Drum Major Scholarship was created to honor the life of former St. Michael Warrior Band dad, Ron Lally Jr. As New Orleans natives, Ron met his wife, Vilma, when they were both high school drum majors. They shared a love and passion for music which was passed down to their daughters, Amanda ’13 and Marissa ’17, who followed their parents’ footsteps and became drum majors for the Warrior band. Each year, the scholarship is awarded to the Warrior Band drum major to assist with expenses incurred from the LSU Drum Major/Leadership Camp.

  • Sally and Francis Crifasi Family Scholarship*

The Sally and Francis Crifasi Family Scholarship was established in 2022 to financially assist eligible families with tuition. As a student at St. Joseph’s Academy in Baton Rouge, Mrs. Sally Crifasi’s father was ill and could not work to fully afford tuition. Fortunately, Sally’s alma mater provided partial assistance for her to continue her studies. The scholarship allows Sally to “pay it forward” and provides the opportunity for eligible student to receive the many gifts of Catholic Education.
